Wet and Shiny Thumbnail PDF Print E-mail

In this tutorial, I will show you how I came up with the design of a wet-marble looking thumbnail for the contests on PST.

step 1

1. 1st step is to create a new layer and create a circle shape.

2. Once done creating a circle, right click the layer and select blending options. (see image)

step 2

3. Blending Options are as follows: (see image)

step 3

4. After customizing those options, you must see your work like this in the image.

step 4

6.To make the logo looks like is in the ball;

- Warp the PST image to fit inside the ball
- Use Soft Light - layer effect
- opacity of 68%

step 5

7. Now what will i just show you is how do i make some of the lighting effects for the balls.
- Just use a brush tool with a brushtip of "soft round 300" and the flow setting is = "20". (see image)

step 6

(You must see image details for these for easier tutoring)
8. Now the real trick here is how to have a very nice refletion.

9. Click the pentool and draw some details shown in the image.

10.After drawing some details by the help of pentool, right click it with pentool and select ' make selection'.

11. After selecting it, fill it with color white, with an opacity of 70%

12. Try to blend some of the reflection details by using 'blur' on some areas and sidelines.

step 7

13. For the bottom reflection part,
- Duplicate the ball
- Transform the Duplicate and flip ( Transform > Flip Vertical)

step 8

14. Let's mask the duplicate ball by dragging the ball into the mask property. (See image)

15. After successfully mask, the layer should look like this.

step 9

16. Now fill the masked layer with gradient (black&white).
- Once done you should notice that the ball occupied by white gradient has faded. If not try again until you get the right shadowed looking for it.
- After that you need to scale the Duplicate Copy and reduce its height for realistic reflection.

step 10

17. Now to make the shadows of the ball underneath
- Create a circle using 'Marquee Tool'
- Make sure to set the 'Feather=20px'
- Then fill with gradient color as shown
- once done you should come up with the same picture below for our shadow

step 11

18. Transform again > and reduce the height of the circle to form a ellipse shape.

19. Place the shadow under the ball. Reduce the Opacity by 85%

step 12

20. There your done! Just added a text with some glow in it for the subject (any font will do).
